I am Laura and I am the founder of LP Child Wellbeing Coach. I have been in the industry of helping children for longer than I care to say (if you must know it’s over 2 decades). During that time, I have come across so many children who I know could flourish but just needed that extra little bit of support and encouragement from those around them and someone to help them realise their own strengths. Sadly, in our current education system it is easy for these children to slip through the net, this is when they begin to display emotional outbursts. We have so much paperwork to complete, boxes to tick and such a short amount of time to do it. I am too often seeing these children spiral deeper and deeper into their own negative thoughts, losing their ‘spark’ and finding it harder and harder to cope with life’s challenges. Kids anxiety has become all too common.
Ever heard of the saying ‘what goes up must come down’? Well, I’m here to tell you that ‘What goes down must eventually come up’. This is where I come in. I decided that I can make a change without having to tick those boxes anymore. My priority is the child and their wellbeing, not targets or data, and this is where my coaching journey began.
Over my 20 something years in the industry I have been lucky enough to work in a variety of different settings, starting out as a passionate Montessori teacher I came across my love for SEN (Special Educational Needs), this eventually led me to Australia where I became a Developmental Therapist, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to support autistic children. Life then gave me the greatest gift of all, and my biggest challenge yet, my wonderful son. Life has a funny way of guiding us and making sure we are exactly where we are meant to be, as at 8 months pregnant while nesting in our home in Australia, life threw a curveball and led us back to England. I truly believe we were meant to return (although I didn’t understand this at the time), my son arrived soon after and I realised I needed the support system of my family and friends around me (8996 miles was just a little too far!). My son has Tourette’s syndrome and ADHD and although I could burst with pride being his Mum, Its hard, and having a good support system makes a world of difference. I took some time off to enjoy him but quickly realised I missed working. At this point I returned to education in a local Special needs school. Over the next few years, I continued my journey of education and researching/learning how to best support children from all backgrounds. And here I am today, my firsthand experience has helped inform my approach, ensuring that my coaching is empathetic, understanding, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and family.
I truly believe in empowering children to thrive socially, emotionally and academically. Through a blend of evidence-based strategies, compassionate support, and individualised coaching, I aim to unlock each child's full potential and nurture their journey towards resilience, confidence, and wellbeing. Not only will this help them but hopefully along the way help parents and families too.
